Why scheduled TikTok posts show up as Only me
Short answer. TikTok restricts videos posted by apps that have not passed its audit to private viewing, and a scheduling tool can only offer the audiences TikTok lists for your account. If your scheduled TikToks keep coming out as “Only me”, check those two things, and the audience that was picked, before you blame the schedule.
Scheduling does not make a TikTok private. What decides who can watch a scheduled post is the same thing that decides it for any post made by an app: what TikTok allows that app to do, what TikTok offers your account, and what was chosen on the form. Here are the three causes, how to tell them apart, and what to do about each.
The three reasons a scheduled TikTok is private#
1. The tool has not passed TikTok’s audit#
TikTok’s Content Posting API documentation says that content posted by unaudited clients is restricted to private viewing mode, and that a client has to undergo an audit to lift the restriction. The audit checks that the app follows TikTok’s terms; apps that post directly must also follow its UX guidelines for sharing content.
A tool can do everything else well, connect your account, take the video, hold it until the minute you chose, and still publish every post as Only me because it is waiting for the audit. TikTok’s Direct Post reference even lists an error, unaudited_client_can_only_post_to_private_accounts, for an unaudited client that tries to post to an account that is not private.
How to tell: every scheduled post from every account you connected is private, whatever audience you picked, and the tool does not say that its TikTok integration has been audited.
2. The audience your account allows#
For each creator, TikTok tells the app which audiences are available at that moment, through a creator information request. An app has to offer only those options, and the audience it sends must be one of them. TikTok rejects a request with an audience that is not on the list (privacy_level_option_mismatch). The four values TikTok defines are everyone, mutual friends, followers of the creator, and only me.
The list is TikTok’s to decide and it is per account, so two accounts connected to the same tool can be offered different choices, and the choices can change over time.
How to tell: the form only offers “Only me”, or a shorter list than you expect, for one account but not another.
3. The audience that was picked#
The simplest cause is also the easiest to miss: “Only me” was chosen, or was left as a default, on the post. TikTok’s own rules are that an app must make the user pick the audience from a dropdown, with no preselected value. A default, or a bulk import that carries one setting to many posts, can put Only me on posts nobody looked at.
How to tell: open the scheduled post and read the audience field before it publishes.
What to check, in order#
- Read the audience on the post before the scheduled minute.
- See whether the choices differ by account. If one account offers “Everyone” and another does not, the cause is TikTok’s list for that account, not the tool.
- Ask whether the tool’s TikTok integration has passed TikTok’s audit for direct posting. If it has not, posts will stay private until it does.
- Test with one post to the audience you want, a few minutes ahead, and look at the result in the TikTok app.
- Know the other route. Some tools use TikTok’s upload route instead: the video is sent to your TikTok inbox, and you open the notification and finish and publish the post yourself in the app. TikTok’s upload reference says the post is not complete until you do. It is not a scheduled post: nothing is published until you finish it.
How Okashare handles it#
- Okashare has completed TikTok’s audit for direct posting, so a scheduled post publishes with the audience you chose.
- In the Okashare console the audience is asked on every post and nothing is preselected. The options shown are the ones TikTok offers that account.
- Comments, duet and stitch start off, and a paid partnership cannot be scheduled as private, as TikTok requires.
- If TikTok no longer offers the audience you chose when the post is due, the post fails with a message that says so, instead of publishing to a different audience.

Frequently asked questions#
Does scheduling a TikTok make it private?#
No. A schedule only decides when the post is sent. Who can watch it is decided by the audit status of the app, the options TikTok offers your account, and the audience chosen on the post.
Can an unaudited app post publicly to TikTok?#
TikTok’s documentation says content posted by unaudited clients is restricted to private viewing mode. An app that wants public posts has to pass TikTok’s audit first.
Why is “Everyone” missing from my scheduling tool?#
TikTok sends the tool the list of audiences available to your account at that moment, and the tool has to show only those. If “Everyone” is not on the list, the tool cannot offer it.
What is the difference between posting directly and uploading to the inbox?#
Direct posting publishes the video to your account when the app sends it. The inbox route only sends the video to your TikTok inbox; you finish and publish the post in the TikTok app yourself.
